Baby Diaper Cost Calculator
Estimate how many diapers your baby needs per day and the running cost — per week, per month and until potty training.
How it works
Diapers/month = per-day × 30.4 · Monthly cost = diapers/month × price · Total = per-day × 30.4 × months × price
Diaper spend is driven far more by count than by brand: a newborn burns through 10–12 a day, tapering to 5–6 for a toddler. Buying by the case and tracking price per diaper (pack price divided by count) is the single biggest lever, often beating coupons. Multiplying a realistic daily count by the months left in diapers turns a small recurring cost into a surprisingly large lifetime figure.
Worked example
At 8 diapers a day and $0.25 each, that is 243 diapers a month costing about $61. Over 30 months to potty training you go through roughly 7,300 diapers for about $1,825.
Frequently asked questions
How many diapers will I use in the first year?
Newborns average 10–12 a day, easing to about 8 by mid-year — roughly 2,500–3,000 diapers in year one. Buying larger sizes in bulk as the baby grows keeps the per-diaper price down.
Are cloth diapers cheaper?
Cloth has a high up-front cost (covers plus inserts) but a near-zero per-use cost, so it usually wins over 2–3 years once you add laundry. This calculator covers disposables; compare its total against a cloth kit price plus washing.
Why use 30.4 days instead of 30?
A calendar month averages 30.4 days (365 ÷ 12), so using 30.4 makes the monthly and yearly figures line up instead of drifting.
