Baseball Bat Size Calculator
Find the right baseball bat length from the player’s height (cm or feet/inches) and the usual length-to-weight drop for their age and league, from tee ball to BBCOR high school bats.
How it works
Height (rounded to the inch) → length from the standard sizing chart · bat weight (oz) = length (in) − drop · drop by age: 4–6 −10 to −14, 7–12 −10 to −13, 13–15 −3 to −7, high school and up −3 (BBCOR)
Bat length is mainly chosen by height (weight shifts it by an inch at most), using the sizing chart published by bat retailers and leagues. The drop is length in inches minus weight in ounces: a 30″ −10 bat weighs 20 oz. Younger players use bigger drops (lighter bats); US high-school and college rules require BBCOR bats with a drop of no more than −3. To check the fit, stand the bat beside the leg — the knob should reach the middle of the palm with the arm hanging down — and the player should hold it straight out to the side for 10 seconds without the barrel dropping.
Worked example
A 10-year-old who is 140 cm tall: 140 ÷ 2.54 = 55.1 in → 55 in, which is 4′7″ in the 4′5″–4′8″ row, so the recommended length is 29–30″ (74–76 cm). Little League age, drop −10 to −13, so the bat should weigh 16–20 oz (454–567 g).

Frequently asked questions
What size bat should a 10-year-old use?
Most 10-year-olds use a 28–30″ bat; go by height first (4′5″–4′8″ → 29–30″) and choose a drop of −10 to −13 so the bat is light enough to control.
How do I know if a bat is too long or too heavy?
Hold it by the handle straight out to the side. If the barrel dips within 10 seconds, it is too heavy. A bat that reaches past the middle of the palm when stood next to the leg is too long.
What is bat drop?
Length in inches minus weight in ounces. A 31″ bat weighing 21 oz is a −10. Higher drop numbers mean lighter bats.
What size bat for an adult?
Adults 5′9″–6′ usually swing 33″, taller players 33–34″. High-school, college and many adult leagues require BBCOR −3 bats, e.g. 33″ / 30 oz.
Is softball bat sizing the same?
Length by height is similar, but fastpitch bats use drops of −8 to −13 and slowpitch bats are sold by weight (26–30 oz) with a 34″ length.
