Coffee Scoops per Pot Calculator
How many scoops of ground coffee for your pot? Enter the pot size and how strong you like it and get scoops, tablespoons and grams.
How it works
Tablespoons = cups × tbsp-per-cup · Scoops = tablespoons ÷ 2 · Grams ≈ tablespoons × 5.3
A "cup" on a coffee maker is 6 fluid ounces, not a full 8 oz mug, and a standard coffee scoop holds 2 tablespoons. The classic middle-of-the-road ratio is about 1½ tablespoons of ground coffee per 6-oz cup; drop to 1 for a mild brew or go to 2 for strong. Convert tablespoons to grams (roughly 5.3 g each) if you weigh your dose for consistency.
Worked example
For a 10-cup pot at the standard 1½ tbsp per cup: 10 × 1.5 = 15 tablespoons, which is 15 ÷ 2 = 7.5 scoops, or about 80 g of coffee, brewed with 60 oz of water.
Frequently asked questions
How big is a coffee scoop?
A standard coffee scoop is 2 tablespoons, about 10 grams of ground coffee. If your scoop is a different size, use the tablespoon figure instead.
Why is a "cup" only 6 ounces?
Coffee makers rate their capacity in 6-oz cups, a convention from older drip machines. That is why a "12-cup" carafe holds about 60 oz, not 96 oz.
Should I measure by weight instead?
Weighing is more repeatable because ground volume varies with grind and settling. A golden ratio is roughly 55–60 g of coffee per litre of water; this tool gives grams so you can dial that in.
