How it works

Conversion rate = conversions ÷ visitors × 100 · Expected = visitors × target%

Conversion rate is the share of visitors who take the action you care about — a purchase, sign-up or lead. Divide conversions by total visitors and multiply by 100. Applying a target rate to the same traffic shows how many more conversions a modest lift would produce, which is often cheaper than buying more visitors.

Worked example

320 conversions from 8,000 visitors is a 4% conversion rate. Lifting it to a 5% target would yield 400 conversions from the same traffic — 80 more, at no extra ad cost.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good conversion rate?

E-commerce averages roughly 2–3%, though it varies by industry, traffic source and price point. Landing pages and lead forms can run much higher. Track your own trend rather than chasing a benchmark.

How do I improve conversion rate?

Clearer value propositions, faster pages, fewer form fields, trust signals and stronger calls to action all help. Test one change at a time so you know what actually moved the number.

Should I use clicks or visitors?

Use whichever denominator matches your goal — total visitors for a site-wide rate, ad clicks for a campaign rate, sessions for engagement. Just keep it consistent so comparisons hold.
