Cricket Bowling Economy Rate Calculator
Bowling economy, average and strike rate from runs conceded, overs and balls bowled, and wickets taken — with the dot-ball percentage if you know it.
How it works
Economy = runs conceded ÷ overs (balls ÷ 6); average = runs ÷ wickets; strike rate = balls ÷ wickets
Economy is runs conceded per over and measures containment; average and strike rate measure wicket-taking. Wides and no-balls count against the bowler’s runs but not as legal balls, which is why the balls-per-wicket figure uses legal deliveries only. What counts as good depends on format: under 4.5 is excellent in ODIs, under 7.5 in T20s.
Worked example
3 for 31 from 9.3 overs (57 balls): economy 3.26, average 10.3, strike rate 19.
Frequently asked questions
Is 9.3 overs 9.5 or 9.3?
Three balls is half an over, so 9.3 in cricket notation is 9.5 overs in the calculation.
What about spells with a maiden?
Maidens are a separate stat; they are already reflected in a low economy.
