How it works

Round rating ≈ 1000 + (SSA − your score) × points-per-throw · A 1000 rating equals the scratch scoring average.

The PDGA rates each round by comparing your score to the course’s scratch scoring average (SSA) — the score a hypothetical 1000-rated player would shoot that day. Every stroke better than SSA adds a course-specific number of rating points (typically around 10 on a par-54 layout, more on shorter courses), and every stroke worse subtracts it. The official system calibrates points-per-throw from the field’s propagator scores, so this is a close estimate rather than the exact published figure.

Worked example

On a course with an SSA of 54 and about 10 points per throw, a round of 52 is 2 strokes under scratch: 1000 + (54 − 52) × 10 = 1020.

Frequently asked questions

What does a disc golf rating mean?

It is a number, usually 700–1050, describing skill on a scale where 1000 is the touring-professional benchmark. Your player rating is a weighted average of recent round ratings.

How do I find the SSA and points-per-throw for a course?

The PDGA calculates both from the scores of rated players in each event. As a rule of thumb, par-54 courses run near 10 points per throw and shorter, lower-par courses run higher — check event results for exact figures.

Why is this only an estimate?

The official rating uses propagator data and rounding rules specific to each event. This calculator uses the same linear relationship but with the SSA and points-per-throw you supply, so it lands close but not identical to the published number.
