Gulf VAT Calculator (UAE 5%, Saudi 15%, Bahrain 10%, Oman 5%)
Add or remove VAT for GCC countries — UAE and Oman at 5%, Bahrain at 10%, Saudi Arabia at 15% — VAT amount, net price and gross total.
How it works
Add: gross = net × (1 + rate). Remove: net = gross ÷ (1 + rate); VAT = gross − net
The GCC agreed a common VAT framework in 2016, but each state sets its own rate and timing. The UAE and Saudi Arabia launched at 5% in January 2018; Saudi tripled its rate to 15% in July 2020 to shore up revenue. Bahrain started at 5% in 2019 and doubled to 10% in 2022, Oman introduced 5% in 2021, while Qatar and Kuwait have yet to implement it. Registration is mandatory above AED 375,000 (UAE) or SAR 375,000 (KSA) of taxable turnover, and invoices must show VAT separately. Zero-rated items (exports, international transport, some education and health, first supply of residential property) and exempt items (residential rent, local passenger transport, some financial services) reduce what is actually charged.
Worked example
A UAE invoice of AED 1,000 before VAT: 5% = AED 50, total AED 1,050. The same goods in Saudi Arabia: 15% = 150, total 1,150.
