Hydration Reminder Schedule Calculator
Turn a daily fluid target into evenly spaced water reminders across your waking hours, with a glass count and reminder interval.
How it works
Glasses = ⌈target ÷ glass size⌉ · Drinking window = awake hours − 1 h · Interval = window ÷ (glasses − 1)
Sipping steadily beats gulping a day's water in a few sittings, because your body can only absorb and use so much at once and the rest is simply passed. This scheduler divides your target into glass-sized doses and spaces them evenly across your waking hours, stopping about an hour before bed so late fluid does not interrupt sleep. Treat the times as gentle nudges — thirst, meals, heat and exercise will all shift the real pattern.
Worked example
An 80 oz target with an 8 oz glass is 10 glasses. From a 7:00 AM wake to a 10:00 PM bedtime is 15 hours; stopping an hour early leaves a 14-hour window. Across the 9 gaps between 10 glasses that is a reminder roughly every 93 minutes, each about 8 oz.
Frequently asked questions
Do coffee and tea count toward the total?
Largely yes. The mild diuretic effect of normal caffeine intake does not cancel the fluid, so tea, coffee, milk and the water in food all contribute. Plain water is just the easiest way to fill any gap.
Why stop drinking an hour before bed?
Front-loading fluid earlier in the day and easing off near bedtime reduces overnight bathroom trips, which protects sleep. If you are thirsty before bed, a small drink is fine — the cutoff is about avoiding large late volumes.
What if my schedule is irregular?
Use the interval as the takeaway rather than the exact clock times. A reminder every 90 minutes or so while you are awake reproduces the same steady intake even when your day shifts around.
