How it works

Slices = kids × 2 + adults × 3 · pizzas = slices ÷ 8 · drinks = (kids × 2 + adults) × (hours ÷ 2) · cake = kids + adults

Kids graze rather than eat full meals, so about two pizza slices each is plenty, while accompanying parents eat closer to three. Everyone gets one cake serving. Children go through drinks quickly at a party — plan about two each for a typical two-hour event — and light snacks like chips, popcorn and fruit round things out without much waste.

Worked example

For 12 kids and 6 adults over 2 hours: slices = 12 × 2 + 6 × 3 = 42, so ceil(42 ÷ 8) = 6 large pizzas. Drinks = (12 × 2 + 6) × 1 = 30, and cake = 18 servings.

Frequently asked questions

How much pizza for a kids party?

About two slices per child and three per adult. Kids get distracted and rarely finish more, so a large 8-slice pizza covers roughly four children or two adults.

How many drinks per child?

Plan on about two drinks per child for a two-hour party — kids drink often when running around. Individual juice boxes or capped cups cut down on spills and waste versus open cups.

What snacks work best?

Simple, low-mess finger foods: chips or pretzels, popcorn, fruit slices, veggie sticks and small crackers. Serve them in individual cups or bags so servings are self-limiting and cleanup is easy.
