Meal Calorie Split Calculator
Divide your daily calories across meals and snacks with a per-meal breakdown table.
How it works
meal calories = daily calories × meal share% ÷ 100
How you divide calories across the day is largely a matter of preference and appetite control — total daily intake drives weight change more than meal timing. These patterns use common shares (for three meals, a lighter breakfast and larger lunch and dinner) so you can plan portions without weighing each plate.
Worked example
On 2,000 kcal with the 3-meal pattern: breakfast 25% = 500 kcal, lunch 40% = 800 kcal, dinner 35% = 700 kcal.
Frequently asked questions
How should I split my calories across meals?
There is no single best split — total intake matters most. Common templates put 25–40% at each main meal, with snacks at 10% each. Choose the pattern that keeps you satisfied and consistent.
Is eating more meals better for metabolism?
No. The idea that frequent small meals "stoke" metabolism is not supported by research at matched calories. Meal frequency is about appetite control and convenience, not a metabolic edge.
Should breakfast be the biggest meal?
Some studies suggest front-loading calories aids appetite control, but results are mixed. The best distribution is the one you can sustain while hitting your daily total.
