Microcement Calculator
How much microcement do you need? Kilos of base and finish coats for your floor, wall or countertop area, plus primer, fibreglass mesh and sealer — using per-coat consumption you can match to your product sheet.
How it works
base = area × base coats × base kg/m² × (1 + waste) · finish = area × finish coats × finish kg/m² × (1 + waste) · primer = area × 0.12 L/m² · sealer = area × 0.10 L/m² × coats · mesh = area × 1.10
Microcement is a polymer-modified cement coating troweled on in thin layers — usually two coats of a coarser base, often with fibreglass mesh embedded in the first one, then two coats of a fine finish, all over a primer and protected by two or more coats of a water-based polyurethane sealer. Total thickness is only 2–3 mm, so quantities are driven by consumption per coat, which depends on the brand, the grain and how tightly it is troweled. The calculator uses typical rates of 0.6 kg/m² per base coat and 0.2 kg/m² per finish coat; replace them with the figures on your product data sheet.
Worked example
A 20 m² floor with two base coats at 0.6 kg/m², two finish coats at 0.2 kg/m² and 10% waste: base 20 × 2 × 0.6 × 1.1 = 26.4 kg, finish 20 × 2 × 0.2 × 1.1 = 8.8 kg, total 35.2 kg of microcement. Add 2.6 L of primer, 22 m² of mesh and 4.4 L of sealer for two coats.

Frequently asked questions
How many kilos of microcement per m²?
Typically 1.2–2 kg/m² for the complete system: around 1 kg/m² of base in two coats and 0.3–0.5 kg/m² of finish in two coats. Floors use the upper end, walls the lower.
Can I apply microcement over tiles?
Yes, if the tiles are well bonded: fill the grout lines first, use the bonding primer the manufacturer specifies and embed fibreglass mesh in the first base coat so the joints do not telegraph through.
How thick is microcement?
About 2–3 mm in total, which is why it can go over existing floors without raising thresholds noticeably.
How many coats of sealer does microcement need?
At least two coats of a water-based polyurethane on walls and three on floors, kitchen countertops and showers, at about 0.08–0.12 L/m² each.
