Moles to Grams Calculator
Convert between moles and grams using molar mass, and see the number of molecules involved.
How it works
grams = moles × molar mass · moles = grams ÷ molar mass · molecules = moles × 6.022×10²³
Molar mass is the bridge between the amount of a substance (moles) and its mass (grams). Multiply moles by molar mass to get grams; divide grams by molar mass to get moles. Multiplying the mole count by Avogadro's number gives the actual number of molecules or formula units.
Worked example
Converting 2 mol of water (molar mass 18.015 g/mol) to grams: 2 × 18.015 = 36.03 g, which contains 2 × 6.022×10²³ ≈ 1.204×10²⁴ molecules.

Frequently asked questions
Where do I get the molar mass?
Use the molar mass calculator, or look it up: water is 18.015 g/mol, table salt (NaCl) 58.44 g/mol, glucose 180.16 g/mol. Enter that value in the molar mass field.
What is a mole?
A mole is 6.022×10²³ particles — atoms, molecules or formula units. It lets chemists count vast numbers of particles by weighing a convenient mass in the laboratory.
Does this work for elements as well as compounds?
Yes. Use the element's atomic mass as the molar mass — for example 12.011 g/mol for carbon — and the same conversions apply.
