NZ Take-Home Pay Calculator (PAYE, KiwiSaver, ACC, Student Loan)
Net salary in New Zealand after PAYE tax, ACC levy, KiwiSaver and student loan deductions — weekly, fortnightly and monthly pay in the hand.
How it works
Net = Gross − PAYE tax − ACC levy (1.67%) − KiwiSaver % − 12% × (Gross − $24,128) student loan
Take-home pay in New Zealand is gross pay less PAYE (income tax net of any Independent Earner Tax Credit), the ACC earner levy, your KiwiSaver contribution and, if you have one, student loan repayments at 12% of everything above the repayment threshold. Your employer adds at least 3% to KiwiSaver on top of your pay (rising to 3.5% from April 2026 and 4% from April 2028), but that is taxed at your ESCT rate before it lands in your account rather than deducted from your pay. Most people are paid fortnightly, so that figure is shown first.
Worked example
$70,000 salary, 3% KiwiSaver, no student loan: PAYE $13,220.50 (no IETC above $70,000), ACC $1,169, KiwiSaver $2,100 → about $53,510 a year or $2,058 a fortnight.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my payslip slightly different?
PAYE tables are applied per pay period and the ACC levy rate and maximum change each April. Bonuses and extra pays are taxed at a flat rate based on your annualised income.
Should I choose a higher KiwiSaver rate?
Higher employee rates do not attract extra employer money (employers match only to 3%), but the government contribution of 25 cents per dollar up to $260.72 a year applies to whatever you put in.
