Percent to Decimal & Fraction Calculator
Convert any percentage into its decimal value and its equivalent fraction in lowest terms, all in one step.
How it works
Decimal = percent ÷ 100 · Fraction = percent/100 reduced by its GCD
A percentage is just a number of hundredths, so dividing by 100 turns it straight into a decimal — the decimal point moves two places to the left. To express it as a fraction, write the percentage over 100, clear any decimal places by scaling, and reduce to lowest terms. All three forms describe exactly the same value.
Worked example
62.5% ÷ 100 = 0.625 as a decimal. As a fraction it starts as 625/1000 (after clearing the .5 by scaling), and the greatest common divisor 125 reduces it to 5/8.
Frequently asked questions
How do I turn a percent into a decimal quickly?
Move the decimal point two places to the left, which is the same as dividing by 100. So 45% becomes 0.45 and 7% becomes 0.07.
Why does 62.5% become 5/8 and not 62.5/100?
62.5/100 still contains a decimal, so it is scaled up to 625/1000 to make both parts whole, then reduced by their greatest common divisor of 125 to reach 5/8.
What about percentages over 100?
They convert the same way. 150% = 1.5 = 3/2, which can also be shown as the mixed number 1 1/2.
