Plant Age Calculator
Track how old a plant or tree is from its planting date — in days, weeks and years — with the next planting anniversary.
How it works
age = today − planting date, expressed in years, months, days and in total days
Knowing a plant’s exact age helps with pruning schedules, expected fruiting or flowering years, and warranty or replacement claims on nursery stock. The calculator counts the exact calendar days from your planting date and also walks the real calendar for a years-months-days age, so a tree planted on April 1 always turns a clean year on April 1. The full-years figure is a handy proxy for the number of growing seasons it has been established.
Worked example
Planted April 1, 2024 and checked on September 16, 2026: that is 898 days, or 128 weeks, 2 days — 2 years, 5 months, 15 days old, with 2 full growing years behind it. The next planting anniversary is 197 days away on April 1, 2027.
Frequently asked questions
Should I use the seed-sowing date or the transplant date?
Use whichever milestone you want to track. For age since it went into the ground, use the transplant or planting-out date; for age from seed, use the sowing date.
Why track a plant’s age at all?
Many perennials, shrubs and fruit trees flower or crop only after a set number of years, and nursery warranties often run one to three years from planting — an exact age settles both.
Is the planting day counted?
No — it counts elapsed days, so the day after planting is day 1. The years-months-days age still turns over on the planting date each year.
