How it works

cycle = sit interval + break · breaks = workday minutes ÷ cycle

Prolonged uninterrupted sitting is a health concern separate from whether you exercise, and the practical fix is to break sitting up regularly — most guidance suggests moving for a minute or two at least every 30 minutes. This scheduler treats each sit-then-break as one cycle, counts how many fit in your workday, and shows how the day splits between sitting and moving. Standing, stretching or a short walk all count as a break.

Worked example

An 8-hour (480-minute) day with 30 minutes sitting and a 3-minute break makes a 33-minute cycle: 480 ÷ 33 ≈ 14 breaks, about 42 minutes of movement and 7 hours of sitting.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I take a posture break?

Aim to stand or move at least every 30 minutes. Even brief breaks interrupt the metabolic effects of continuous sitting and reset your posture.

What should I do on a break?

Stand, walk, or run through a few stretches — anything that changes your position and gets you moving. The change of posture matters as much as the activity.

Do breaks replace a workout?

No. Breaking up sitting and meeting weekly activity guidelines are complementary. Frequent breaks reduce sedentary harm; dedicated exercise builds fitness.
