How it works
Cost per page = cartridge price ÷ page yield
The sticker price of ink hides the real cost, which is per page. Dividing by the cartridge’s rated yield reveals it — and shows why high-yield or refillable options can pay off for heavy printing.
Worked example
A $30 cartridge rated for 200 pages costs $0.15 per page.
Frequently asked questions
Are rated yields accurate?
They assume about 5% page coverage. Photos and heavy graphics use far more, so real cost per page is often higher.
Is a laser printer cheaper?
For high volume, usually yes — toner cost per page is lower than inkjet, though the printer costs more up front.
