Resin Print Cost Per Model Calculator
Work out the resin cost of an MSLA print and split it across the models on the plate — from millilitres used and your bottle price.
How it works
Cost per ml = bottle price ÷ bottle volume · Print cost = ml used × cost per ml × (1 + waste%) · Per model = print cost ÷ models
Resin is sold by the litre but a single miniature might use only a few millilitres, so the honest unit cost is per model, not per print. Your slicer reports total millilitres including the support raft and struts, which can be a large share on heavily supported minis — that resin is real cost even though it is thrown away. The waste allowance covers what clings to the vat, drips off during rinsing and the occasional plate that fails to cure or shears off the supports.
Worked example
A $35 bottle holds 1000 ml, so resin is $0.035/ml. A plate using 60 ml costs 60 × 0.035 = $2.10, plus a 10% allowance = $2.31. Split across 4 models that is about $0.58 each — and the bottle yields roughly 1000 ÷ 60 ≈ 16 such plates.
Frequently asked questions
Does the millilitre figure include supports?
Yes — the volume your slicer reports covers the models plus every support and the raft. On small, heavily supported miniatures the supports can be a third or more of the resin, so they matter to the cost.
How is this different from a resin cost-by-weight calculator?
Resin slicers report volume in millilitres, and resin bottles are labelled in millilitres or litres, so working in volume avoids a density conversion. This tool then divides by the number of models to give a per-piece cost for pricing.
Should I add the cost of IPA and gloves?
For accurate pricing, yes — isopropyl alcohol for washing, gloves, FEP film and eventual build-plate wear all add up. A simple way is to raise the waste-and-consumables allowance until it covers them.
