Retirement Date Calculator
Enter your birth date and target retirement age to see your retirement date and the exact countdown to it.
How it works
retirement date = birth date + retirement age (in years) · countdown = retirement date − today
The retirement date is your birthday in the year you reach the target age — computed by adding whole years to your birth date on the real calendar, so a February 29 birthday clamps sensibly. The countdown is an exact calendar-day count from today, which is why it never equals “years remaining × 365”. This is a date calculator, not a savings plan: it tells you when, not whether you can afford to.
Worked example
Born May 20, 1980 with a target age of 65: you turn 65 on May 20, 2045. From September 15, 2026 that is 18 years, 8 months, 5 days away — 6,822 days.
Frequently asked questions
Does this account for early or full retirement ages?
It uses whatever age you enter. Many pension systems distinguish an early-access age from a full-benefit age (in the US, full Social Security age is 66–67 depending on birth year), so enter the age that matches the benefit you are planning around.
How is a leap-year birthday treated?
A February 29 birth date clamps to February 28 in a non-leap target year, so the retirement date still falls once and lands on a real calendar day.
Does this tell me if I have saved enough?
No — it is purely a date. For the money side, pair it with a retirement savings or retirement corpus calculator.
