Scrabble Word Score Calculator
Score any word with standard English Scrabble tile values, apply double/triple letter and word squares, blanks and the 50-point bingo bonus.
How it works
score = (Σ letter value × letter-square multiplier) × word multiplier(s) + 50 if all 7 tiles are played
Letter squares multiply only the tile sitting on them; word squares multiply the whole word after letter bonuses, and two word squares in one play multiply together (double-double = ×4, triple-triple = ×9). Blanks score zero wherever they sit but still take the word multiplier. Premium squares only count on the turn the tile is placed. The standard English distribution gives Q and Z 10 points, J and X 8, and the vowels 1.
Worked example
QUIXOTIC with the U on a triple-letter square: Q10 + U1×3 + I1 + X8 + O1 + T1 + I1 + C3 = 28; on a double-word square that is 56, and as a seven-tile play from the rack it would add 50.
Frequently asked questions
Does a blank get the letter square bonus?
No — a blank is worth 0, so doubling or tripling it changes nothing. The word multiplier still applies.
Are the values the same in Words With Friends?
No — WWF uses its own set (e.g. J and Z 10, Q 10, X 8, but H 3 and D 2) and different board layouts.
