Scrapbook Page Count Calculator: Pages, Sheets, Albums and Spine Thickness
Plan a scrapbook or photo album: turn your photo count and photos per page into pages, two-sided sheets, page protectors, albums needed, cardstock to buy and how thick the finished album will be.
How it works
photo pages = feature pages + ⌈(photos − feature pages) ÷ photos per page⌉ · total = photo pages + title pages · sheets = ⌈total ÷ 2⌉ (two-sided) · spine = sheets × thickness · albums = ⌈sheets ÷ capacity⌉ · cardstock = ⌈total × (1 + spare %)⌉
The photo pages you need is the photo count divided by how many you place per page, always rounded up because a part-filled page still counts. Feature pages that hold a single large photo are counted separately under More options. Adding title, section-divider and journaling pages gives the full page total. Most scrapbook albums use two-sided sheets in clear page protectors, so the sheet count is half the pages, rounded up; switch two-sided off if each layout sits alone. Multiplying sheets by the thickness of one loaded sheet (protector, cardstock, photos and embellishments) estimates the spine, and dividing sheets by the album capacity tells you how many albums to buy. You also get the page protector packs and the cardstock base sheets to buy with a spare margin. Thickness varies a lot: a flat photo page may be under 1 mm, while layouts with chipboard, buttons and pockets can reach 3 mm or more, so measure one finished sheet if you can.
Worked example
For 120 photos at 4 per page you need ⌈120 ÷ 4⌉ = 30 photo pages. Adding 4 title pages makes 34 pages, on ⌈34 ÷ 2⌉ = 17 two-sided sheets. At 1.2 mm per loaded sheet the spine is 17 × 1.2 = 20.4 mm, about 0.80 in, which fits one 20-sheet album. You need 2 packs of 10 protectors and ⌈34 × 1.1⌉ = 38 sheets of cardstock.

Frequently asked questions
How many photos per page is normal?
From 1 (a full-page feature photo) to 6 or more in a collage layout. Two to four per page is the most common balance of photos with room for journaling and embellishments.
How many pages does a 12 × 12 album hold?
It depends on the album, so check its listing. Post-bound albums usually come with a set of page protectors and can take more with extension posts; ring albums are limited by the ring size. Enter the capacity in sheets; each two-sided sheet holds two pages.
Why estimate album thickness?
Post-bound and ring albums have a maximum capacity. Knowing your loaded-sheet thickness tells you whether your pages fit in one album or need to be split into volumes, especially with bulky embellishments.
Do the pages count both sides?
A page here is one side you decorate. A two-sided sheet carries two pages, so the sheet count is half the page count, rounded up when you finish on an odd page.
What paper should I use for a scrapbook?
Acid-free and lignin-free cardstock and PVC-free page protectors. Acidic paper and older magnetic albums can yellow and damage photos over time.
