Super Co-Contribution Calculator
The government co-contribution on after-tax super contributions — 50 cents per dollar up to $500 for incomes to $47,488, phasing out by $62,488 — and the contribution that captures the full amount.
How it works
co-contribution = min(50% × after-tax contribution, $500 − 3.333¢ × (income − $47,488)), zero above $62,488 (2025–26)
The super co-contribution is a 50% match from the government for low and middle earners who add after-tax money to super — the best guaranteed return available anywhere for those who qualify. It tapers between the two income thresholds, which index each July, and requires at least a tenth of income to come from work. Because it needs no paperwork beyond lodging a return, it is often overlooked by part-timers, students with jobs and parents returning to work.
Worked example
$42,000 of income and a $1,000 contribution: full $500 co-contribution — a 50% return the day it lands.
