How it works

end date = start + weeks × 7 − 1 day · total sessions = (weeks − rest weeks) × workouts per week

A structured training block runs a set number of weeks, so its end date is simply the start plus that many weeks, minus one day because the start week is week one. Counting sessions helps you gauge the real volume: multiplying the training weeks (excluding deload or rest weeks) by workouts per week shows how many times you will actually train. That total is useful for ordering the right amount of a supplement, budgeting gym visits, or seeing whether a program fits before an event.

Worked example

A 12-week program at 4 workouts a week from September 16, 2026 ends on December 8, 2026 (84 days). With no rest weeks, that is 12 × 4 = 48 sessions.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the end date subtract a day?

The start date is the first day of week one, so a 12-week block spans 84 days and finishes on day 84 — which is 83 days after it begins. Subtracting one day keeps the length exact.

How are rest weeks handled?

Rest or deload weeks still add to the calendar length (the end date includes them) but are excluded from the session count, since you are not doing the regular workouts during them.

Can I work backwards from an event?

Yes — count the weeks between now and your event and use that as the program length to see how many training sessions you can fit before the date.
