Wrinkle Prevention Routine Time Calculator
Estimate the daily, weekly and yearly time your anti-ageing skincare routine takes based on steps, sunscreen and how many times a day you do it.
How it works
Daily seconds = steps × seconds/step × times per day (+ sunscreen once) · Yearly hours = daily minutes × 365 ÷ 60
The single most evidence-backed way to prevent wrinkles is limiting UV exposure — daily broad-spectrum sunscreen and shade — followed by not smoking and, for some, a topical retinoid. Elaborate multi-step routines add time but far less proven benefit than sunscreen alone. This calculator shows the time cost of a routine so you can weigh whether extra steps are worth the minutes, and reminds you that the cheapest, fastest step (sunscreen) does most of the work.
Worked example
A basic 3-step routine at 40 seconds per step, done twice a day, is 3 × 40 × 2 = 240 seconds, plus one 40-second sunscreen step = 280 seconds ≈ 4.7 minutes a day, or about 28 hours a year.
Frequently asked questions
What actually prevents wrinkles?
Sun protection is the biggest lever: most visible facial ageing comes from UV exposure. Not smoking, adequate sleep, and — where suitable — a retinoid have the best evidence. Many trendy steps add little.
Is a longer routine better?
Not necessarily. Beyond cleanse, sunscreen (day), a proven active like retinoid (night) and moisturiser, extra steps mostly add time and cost, not measurable wrinkle prevention.
Does the order of products matter?
Somewhat. A common rule is thinnest to thickest, with sunscreen always last in the morning. Consistency matters more than perfect layering.
