Australia Paid Parental Leave Calculator (2025–26)
Government Parental Leave Pay — 24 weeks at the national minimum wage, the total before tax, superannuation on the payment, the income test and how it stacks with employer-paid leave.
How it works
pay = weeks × national minimum wage ($948.10/week); max 24 weeks (120 days) shared between parents, with 3 weeks reserved for each; work test: 10 of the 13 months before birth; income test as above
Australia’s Parental Leave Pay is a flat government payment at the minimum wage, expanding each July — 22 weeks in 2024, 24 in 2025, 26 from July 2026 — and since July 2025 it attracts superannuation for the first time. It can be taken in blocks within two years of the birth and split between parents, with a portion reserved for each. Many employers pay their own scheme on top, often at full salary for a set number of weeks. The payment is taxable and reported like wages.
Worked example
24 weeks × $948.10 = $22,754 before tax, with about $2,730 of super paid into your fund; an employer paying 12 weeks at $1,500 would add $18,000.
