Baby Formula Amount Calculator
How much formula a baby needs per day and per bottle by weight and age — plus scoops, water and how many tins a month at your brand’s scoop size.
How it works
daily formula ≈ 150 mL × weight (kg), capped at ~1 L (≈ 600 mL once solids are established); scoops = mL ÷ 30 (check your tin)
Formula-fed babies need roughly 150 mL per kilogram a day (2½ fl oz per pound) from the second week, though 120–200 mL/kg is normal between individuals. Intake plateaus around one litre a day by three to four months and then falls as solids take over. Always make bottles up exactly as the tin instructs — one level scoop per 30 mL of water for most brands — because concentrated or diluted feeds are harmful.
Worked example
A 5.2 kg two-month-old: 780 mL a day, six bottles of 130 mL (about 4⅓ scoops each); 112 g of powder a day, so an 800 g tin lasts a week.
Frequently asked questions
Water first or powder first?
Water first, then level scoops — adding powder first makes the feed too concentrated.
How long does a made-up bottle keep?
Use within 2 hours at room temperature (1 hour once feeding starts); discard leftovers.
