Basketball Shooting Percentage Calculator (eFG% & TS%)
Calculate field-goal percentage, effective field-goal percentage and true shooting percentage from makes, three-pointers, free throws and points.
How it works
eFG% = (FGM + 0.5·3PM) ÷ FGA · TS% = points ÷ (2 × (FGA + 0.44·FTA)) · points = 2·(FGM−3PM) + 3·3PM + FTM
Plain field-goal percentage treats a three like a two and ignores free throws, so it undersells modern shooters. Effective field-goal percentage adds half-credit for the extra point a three delivers, and true shooting goes further by folding in free throws through the 0.44 factor that estimates how many possessions foul shots consume. Together they measure scoring efficiency the way analysts and front offices actually do.
Worked example
9-of-18 shooting with 3 threes, plus 5-of-6 at the line, scores 2×6 + 3×3 + 5 = 26 points. eFG% = (9 + 1.5) ÷ 18 = 58.3%, and TS% = 26 ÷ (2 × (18 + 0.44×6)) = 26 ÷ 41.28 = 63.0%.

Frequently asked questions
Why 0.44 for free throws?
Not every free throw ends a possession — and-ones, technicals and the first of two do not. The 0.44 coefficient is the empirical average of free-throw attempts per true scoring possession.
What is a good true shooting percentage?
League average hovers near 56–57%. A 60% TS on high volume marks an elite, efficient scorer, while below 50% is inefficient for a primary option.
When should I prefer eFG over TS?
Use eFG to judge shooting from the field alone. Use TS when you want total scoring efficiency, since it also rewards drawing and making free throws.
