Points Per Game & Season Projection Calculator
Find a player or team’s points per game and project the full-season total, plus the pace needed to reach a target.
How it works
PPG = points ÷ games played · Projected total = PPG × season games · Pace needed = (target − points so far) ÷ games remaining
Points per game is the simplest scoring rate, and multiplying it by the season length gives a straight-line projection of where a player or team is headed. The pace-to-target figure inverts that: it tells you how many points per remaining game are required to finish at a goal, which is how fans track scoring-title and record chases mid-season. The projection is only as steady as the pace — early hot or cold streaks make it swing, and it tightens as the sample of games grows.
Worked example
340 points in 17 games is 20.0 per game; over an 82-game season that projects to 1,640. To reach 1,800 you would need the remaining 65 games at (1800 − 340) ÷ 65 = 22.5 per game.
Frequently asked questions
Does this work for teams, not just players?
Yes. Feed in team points and games for a scoring-pace projection, or use goals, runs or any per-game total — the arithmetic is identical.
Why is my projection off from reality?
A straight-line projection assumes the current rate continues. Small samples early in a season swing wildly, and schedule strength, rest and injuries all bend the real curve.
How is pace-to-target useful?
It converts a season goal into a concrete per-game number you can track. If the required pace drifts above your recent form, the target is slipping away.
