How it works

American +A → decimal 1 + A/100; American −A → decimal 1 + 100/A · fractional a/b → decimal 1 + a/b · decimal d → American +100(d − 1) if d ≥ 2, else −100/(d − 1) · implied probability = 1 ÷ d · Hong Kong = d − 1 · Indonesian = American ÷ 100 · Malaysian = d − 1 if d ≤ 2, else −1/(d − 1)

Every odds format describes the same thing — how much a winning bet returns. Decimal odds (Europe, Latin America, Australia) include the stake; fractional odds (UK and Ireland horse racing) show profit per unit staked; American moneyline odds show the profit on a 100 stake (+) or the stake needed to win 100 (−). Asian books quote Hong Kong, Malaysian and Indonesian odds. The implied probability, 1 ÷ decimal odds, is the break-even win rate; across all outcomes of a market these add up to more than 100% because of the bookmaker's margin.

Worked example

American odds of +150 are 2.50 in decimal and 3/2 in fractional, imply a 40.00% chance, and are 1.50 in Hong Kong and Indonesian format and −0.67 in Malaysian format. A $100 stake wins $150.00 profit for a $250.00 total return.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert American odds to decimal?

For positive odds divide by 100 and add 1 (+150 → 2.50). For negative odds divide 100 by the number and add 1 (−110 → 1.909, −200 → 1.50).

How do I convert decimal odds to fractional?

Subtract 1 and write the result as a fraction: 2.50 → 1.5 → 3/2; 1.80 → 0.8 → 4/5. Bookmakers round awkward fractions to the nearest standard price.

What does implied probability mean?

It is the win rate at which a bet breaks even: 1 ÷ decimal odds. Odds of 2.50 imply 40%. If you believe the true chance is higher, the bet has positive expected value.

What are evens odds?

Evens (even money) are 1/1 fractional, 2.00 decimal and +100 American: you win the same amount you stake. You can type "evens" into the converter.
