BMI Prime Calculator
Calculate BMI Prime — your BMI as a simple ratio to the upper healthy limit of 25 — from your weight and height.
How it works
BMI = weight(kg) ÷ height(m)² · BMI Prime = BMI ÷ 25
BMI Prime is your body mass index divided by 25, the upper limit of the healthy BMI range. Turning BMI into a ratio makes it instantly readable: a value under 1.00 sits inside the healthy band, exactly 1.00 lands on the upper edge, and 1.20 means your BMI is 20% above the cutoff. It carries the same information as BMI but expresses how far you are from the threshold as a percentage, which many people find easier to interpret than the raw two-digit number.
Worked example
At 75 kg and 175 cm (1.75 m): BMI = 75 ÷ 1.75² = 24.49 kg/m². BMI Prime = 24.49 ÷ 25 = 0.98 — just under the upper healthy limit.

Frequently asked questions
What is a healthy BMI Prime?
Roughly 0.74 to 1.00, corresponding to a BMI of 18.5 to 25. Below 0.74 is underweight and above 1.00 crosses into overweight, with 1.20 and up in the obese range.
Why use BMI Prime instead of BMI?
It is the same measurement rescaled, but as a ratio it tells you at a glance how far you are from the healthy ceiling — a prime of 1.15 immediately reads as "15% over" — which can be clearer than comparing 28.75 to 25.
Does it share BMI’s limitations?
Yes. Because it is derived directly from BMI, it inherits the same blind spots: it cannot tell muscle from fat, so very muscular people can read high, and it does not account for where fat is stored.
