Ideal Weight Calculator
Estimate an ideal body weight range for your height using the standard medical formulas.
How it works
Devine: 50 kg (men) / 45.5 kg (women) + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 ft
Devine (1974) is the classic clinical formula; Robinson and Miller are later refinements. All grow linearly with height above five feet. The BMI-derived range (18.5–24.9) is the modern population-health band.
Worked example
A 5′10″ man: Devine = 50 + 2.3×10 = 73 kg ≈ 161 lb; the healthy-BMI band for that height is roughly 129–174 lb.
Frequently asked questions
Why do the formulas disagree?
Each was fitted to different clinical data decades apart. The spread between them is a reminder that "ideal" is a range, not a single number.
Does frame size matter?
Yes — bone structure and muscle mass shift healthy weight meaningfully. Waist circumference and body-fat percentage add context BMI misses.
Are these valid for very tall or short people?
They extrapolate poorly outside common height ranges, and none apply to children.
