Book Reading Finish Date Calculator
Find the date you’ll finish a book from your pages-per-day pace or your daily reading time — or the pages a day you need to finish by a deadline — with reading days, time per day, a day-by-day schedule and progress milestones.
How it works
pages left = total − pages read · reading days = ⌈pages left ÷ pages per day⌉ · finish date = the date of that reading day, with the start date as day 1 (skipping the days you do not read) · by time: pages per day = minutes × words per minute ÷ words per page · by deadline: pages per day = ⌈pages left ÷ reading days before the deadline⌉ · reading time = pages × words per page ÷ words per minute
Reading has a steady rhythm once you set a daily goal, so a finish date is just the pages remaining divided by that goal, rounded up to whole days. Because the start date is the first day you read, the finish lands one day fewer after it — a five-day read that begins Monday ends Friday, not Saturday (switch that off under More options if you start tomorrow). You can plan three ways: by pages per day; by minutes per day, where your reading speed and the words on a page turn time into pages; or by a deadline, which gives the pages a day you need. Speeds default to about 240 words a minute, close to the 238–260 words a minute measured for adult silent reading in a large 2019 review, and a typical paperback page holds about 250–300 words. If you only read on weekdays, weekends or six days a week, the schedule skips the other days. The results add the daily reading time, the reading time left, how many books of this length you would finish in a year, and a day-by-day schedule with the page range for each session and the dates you reach 25%, 50% and 75%. Entering pages already read lets you re-plan mid-book.
Worked example
A 320-page book with 25 pages a day, starting fresh on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, needs ⌈320 ÷ 25⌉ = 13 days, finishing on Monday, September 28, 2026. At 240 words a minute and 275 words a page, 25 pages take about 29 minutes a day and the whole book about 6 hours 7 minutes. Reading only on weekdays, the same 13 sessions end on Friday, October 2. To finish within 10 days instead, you would need ⌈320 ÷ 10⌉ = 32 pages a day.
Frequently asked questions
Does the start date count as a reading day?
Yes, by default the calculator assumes you read your daily pages on the start date itself, so the finish date is the start plus one fewer day than the total. If you begin tomorrow, turn off “I also read on the start date” under More options.
How many pages a day do I need to finish by a certain date?
Choose “Finish within”, enter the number of days you have, and the calculator divides the pages left by the reading days in that window, rounding up. For example, 300 pages in 12 days is 25 pages a day.
What if I skip days?
Under More options, pick weekdays only, weekends only or six days a week; the schedule and finish date skip the days you do not read. For irregular habits, lower the pages per day to your true average.
How long does it take to read a page?
At an average adult speed of about 240 words a minute and 275 words a page, roughly 1 minute 9 seconds, or about 52 pages an hour. Pick a slower or faster speed, or enter your own, to match how you read.
Can I use it for audiobooks or e-readers?
Yes — swap pages for minutes, chapters or the percentage an e-reader shows (use 100 as the total) and keep the same per-day pace. The date math is identical whatever unit you track.
