CI/CD Minutes Cost Calculator
Estimate the monthly cost of your CI/CD pipeline from build frequency, duration, parallelism and any free-tier minutes.
How it works
Total minutes = builds/day × duration × parallel jobs × active days · Billable = max(0, total − free) · Cost = billable × price/min
Hosted CI bills by the minute and counts every parallel job separately, so a build that fans out into four jobs burns four times its wall-clock minutes. Multiplying build frequency by duration by parallelism by active days gives the true monthly consumption; only the minutes beyond your free allowance are charged. The two biggest levers are caching (to cut duration) and skipping redundant builds (to cut frequency).
Worked example
30 builds a day at 8 minutes, single job, over 22 days is 30 × 8 × 1 × 22 = 5,280 minutes. Subtract 2,000 free minutes and 3,280 are billable; at $0.008/min that is $26.24 a month.
Frequently asked questions
Why do parallel jobs cost more?
Most CI providers bill per job-minute, not per build. If a build runs four jobs at once, each job accrues minutes independently, so 10 wall-clock minutes of a 4-job build is 40 billable minutes.
How do I cut CI minutes?
Cache dependencies and build layers, run only the tests affected by a change, skip CI on docs-only commits, and cancel superseded runs when new commits arrive. Faster machines cost more per minute but can lower total minutes.
Do larger runners change the cost?
Yes. Bigger runners usually carry a per-minute multiplier, so a 2× runner that halves your build time can be cost-neutral, while a 4× runner that only shaves 20% off will cost more.
