How it works

Weekly = coffees/day × price × days/week · Annual = weekly × 52 · 10-year = annual × 10

A single coffee feels trivial, but the arithmetic of repetition is what makes habits expensive: a five-dollar cup bought on workdays crosses a thousand dollars a year without ever feeling like a big purchase. Showing the weekly, monthly, yearly and ten-year figures side by side reframes the decision from "one coffee" to "a recurring line item." The ten-year total ignores investment growth, so the real opportunity cost of the money is higher still.

Worked example

One $5 coffee on 5 workdays is 5 × 1 × 5 = $25 a week. Over 52 weeks that is $1,300 a year, about $108 a month, and $13,000 across ten years.

Frequently asked questions

Does this include making coffee at home?

Put your home cost per cup — grounds, filters, milk — in the price field and it works the same way. Comparing your café figure against a home figure is the quickest way to see what switching would save.

Why show a 10-year total?

Recurring habits are best judged over the horizon you'll keep them. A decade makes the compounding of a daily purchase visible in a way an annual number alone does not — and the true cost is higher once you count the returns that money could have earned.

How do I model cutting back rather than quitting?

Lower the days per week or coffees per day to your target and compare the new annual figure against the old one. The gap is your yearly saving from the smaller habit.
