How it works
DOTS = total × 500 ÷ (a + b·BW + c·BW² + d·BW³ + e·BW⁴)
DOTS normalises a powerlifting total against body weight using a polynomial, so lifters of different sizes and sexes can be compared fairly. Higher is stronger pound-for-pound.
Worked example
A 500 kg total at 90 kg bodyweight (male) scores about 326 DOTS.
Frequently asked questions
Is DOTS better than Wilks?
DOTS is the newer coefficient set most federations now prefer; it fixed some edge cases in the older Wilks formula.
What is a good DOTS score?
Roughly: 300 is strong intermediate, 400 is advanced, 500+ is elite — but standards vary by federation.
