Email Marketing ROI Calculator
Turn an email campaign’s revenue, cost and list size into ROI, revenue per email, and profit earned.
How it works
Profit = revenue − cost · ROI % = profit ÷ cost × 100 · Revenue per email = revenue ÷ emails sent
Email consistently posts some of the highest ROI in marketing because the cost of sending to an owned list is tiny next to the revenue it can drive. This calculator compares the revenue a campaign produced to everything it cost — platform fees, design, copy and time — then reduces it to revenue per email so you can compare campaigns of different list sizes on equal footing.
Worked example
A campaign to 20,000 subscribers costs $750 and generates $6,000. Profit is 6,000 − 750 = $5,250; ROI is 5,250 ÷ 750 × 100 = 700%. Revenue per email is 6,000 ÷ 20,000 = $0.30.
Frequently asked questions
Why is email marketing ROI usually so high?
You are messaging an audience that already opted in, at near-zero marginal cost per send. With no per-click auction to pay, even modest response rates produce large returns relative to the small campaign cost.
What costs should I include?
Everything the campaign consumed: email platform fees, design and copywriting, any images or offers, and a fair value for the time spent. Leaving out labour inflates the ROI unrealistically.
What is revenue per email good for?
It normalises campaigns across list sizes and shows the value of each subscriber. Rising revenue per email means better targeting or content; a falling number can signal list fatigue.
