How it works

Conversion rate % = conversions ÷ visitors × 100 · Revenue per visitor = conversions × value ÷ visitors

Conversion rate is the share of visitors who take the action you care about — a purchase, a signup, a lead. It turns raw traffic into a measure of how well the offer, page and funnel actually persuade. Multiplying by the revenue each conversion is worth gives revenue per visitor, the number that tells you what you can afford to pay to acquire traffic.

Worked example

A page gets 1,500 visitors and 60 sales, so the conversion rate is 60 ÷ 1,500 × 100 = 4% — one sale for every 25 visitors. At $80 a sale, revenue per visitor is 60 × 80 ÷ 1,500 = $3.20.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good conversion rate?

For e-commerce, 2–3% is common and above 5% is strong, but it varies by traffic quality, price and industry. Track your own trend over time rather than chasing a universal benchmark.

How does conversion rate connect to ad spend?

Revenue per visitor equals conversion rate times order value. That figure sets the most you can pay per click and still profit, which links your landing page performance directly to your ad budget.

How do I improve conversion rate?

Test headlines, simplify the checkout or form, add trust signals, speed up the page, and make sure traffic matches the offer. Small friction reductions often move the rate more than a bigger redesign.
