EU VAT Calculator by Country
Add or remove VAT at the standard rate of any EU member state — Germany 19%, France 20%, Italy 22%, Spain 21%, Hungary 27%, Luxembourg 17% and all 27 countries — for 2025.
How it works
Gross = net × (1 + rate); net = gross ÷ (1 + rate); EU law sets a 15% minimum standard rate — each state sets its own above that
Every EU member applies VAT under the common VAT Directive, but the standard rate is national: the directive only requires at least 15%, and rates run from Luxembourg’s 17% to Hungary’s 27%. Several countries raised rates recently — Estonia to 24% and Finland to 25.5% in 2024–25, Slovakia to 23% and Romania to 21% in 2025. Most states also have one or two reduced rates for food, books, medicines and hospitality, which this calculator does not model. For cross-border B2C sales within the EU, the rate of the customer’s country applies once you pass €10,000 of EU-wide sales, reported through the One-Stop-Shop; B2B sales between VAT-registered businesses are reverse-charged at 0%.
Worked example
A €1,000 net invoice in Germany: 19% VAT = €190, gross €1,190. The same invoice in Hungary would carry €270 of VAT.
Frequently asked questions
Which rate do I charge when selling online across the EU?
Below €10,000 of total cross-border B2C sales a year you may charge your home rate; above it you charge the customer’s country rate and file via the OSS return.
Does the UK still count?
No — the UK left the EU VAT area in 2021 and applies its own 20% standard rate; goods crossing the border are imports/exports.
