Finish Time From Pace Calculator
Enter any distance and your goal pace to get the exact finish time, plus the equivalent pace in the other unit and your speed.
How it works
Finish time = pace per unit × distance · Speed = 3600 ÷ (pace seconds per km or mile)
Finish time is nothing more than your steady pace multiplied by the distance — the arithmetic is simple, but it is where most race plans quietly go wrong. A pace that feels sustainable for a few kilometres compounds over a long race, so a five-second slip per kilometre over a marathon costs more than three and a half minutes. Seeing the finish time your goal pace actually produces keeps the target honest.
Worked example
At 5:00 per km over 10 km, finish time is 5:00 × 10 = 50:00. The same pace is 8:03 per mile and equals a speed of 12.00 km/h (7.46 mph).
Frequently asked questions
Does this account for slowing down late in the race?
No — it assumes a perfectly even pace from start to finish. Real races usually drift slower in the closing stages, so treat the result as the best case for a given average pace and build in a small buffer.
Can I use it for cycling or swimming?
Yes. The calculation is pace-times-distance for any sport; just enter your pace per km or per mile. For swimming you would typically work in pace per 100 m instead, so a dedicated swim pace tool fits better there.
Why is my per-mile pace a bigger number than per-km?
A mile is longer than a kilometre (about 1.609 km), so covering one takes more time. The per-mile pace is always the per-km pace multiplied by 1.609.
