Gacha Soft Pity Calculator (5★ Chance in N Pulls, 50/50 & Guaranteed)
Your real odds on a gacha banner with soft and hard pity: the chance of the featured 5-star (or several copies) within your pulls from your current pity, any 5-star, the 50/50 or a guarantee, pulls needed for 50%, 90% and 99%, expected 5-stars, premium currency still needed, and presets for Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero and Wuthering Waves plus a custom system.
How it works
rate at pull n = base until soft pity, then base + ramp × (n − soft + 1), 100% at hard pity · P(first 5★ at k) = rate(k) × Π(1 − rate(j)) for j < k · P(featured within N) = Σ_k P(first at k) × [w + (1 − w) × P(another 5★ within N − k from pity 0)] · more copies: convolve with the fresh featured distribution · expected pulls per 5★ = Σ k × P(k) · per featured = that × (2 − w)
Gacha banners advertise a tiny base rate but hide a ramp: after a set number of misses the chance per pull rises steeply until a hard guarantee, so the moment a 5-star arrives bunches up just past the soft-pity threshold instead of spreading out to the hard pity. On top of that sits the featured-or-not coin flip, with a guarantee after a loss. The question that matters — will I get this character with the pulls I have — needs both mechanisms: the chance the first 5-star lands in time and is the right one, plus the chance it is the wrong one and a second still lands before the pulls run out. For constellations, eidolons or other duplicates, each further copy restarts from zero pity, and the distributions are combined exactly. The calculator works from your current pity and guarantee, adds the pulls you can make from premium currency, and shows how many pulls give a 50%, 90% or 99% chance, the worst case, the expected number of 5-stars and how much currency you still need. Presets cover the common banners; choose Custom for any other game.
Worked example
At pity 20 with 60 pulls on a Genshin-style character banner, there is about a 91% chance of some 5★ (soft pity starts at your 54th pull) but only a 48% chance it is the featured one, because a lost 50/50 leaves too few pulls for a second 5★. A 90% chance takes about 136 pulls from here, 99% about 141, and the worst case is 160. On average a 5★ costs about 62 pulls and a featured one about 93, roughly 15,000 premium currency. Wanting 2 copies from the same spot drops the chance with 60 pulls to about 2% and pushes the 90% mark to about 252 pulls; with the guarantee instead, 60 pulls give a 91% chance and the worst case is 70.
Frequently asked questions
Is the 50/50 really 50%?
It is the published rule on Genshin, Honkai: Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero and Wuthering Waves character banners. Genshin’s Capturing Radiance raises the long-run featured share to roughly 55%; turn it on under More options. Weapon and light-cone banners are 75/25.
Does soft pity really start at 74?
Community data from millions of pulls puts the Genshin and Star Rail character ramp at pull 74, with the rate jumping by about 6 points per pull, and the weapon banner at 63. The games publish only the base and consolidated rates, so treat the ramp as a close estimate. The average 5★ lands around pull 62, and pull 90 is rarely reached.
How many pulls guarantee the featured character?
On a 90-pity, 50/50 banner, at most 180 from zero: lose the 50/50 at pull 90, then reach hard pity again. With the guarantee, at most 90 minus your current pity. Each extra copy can add up to another 180.
How do I count premium currency?
Enter it under More options with the cost of one pull (160 on most HoYoverse and Kuro games). The calculator turns it into whole pulls and adds them to the ones you have, and tells you how much more you need for a 90% chance.
Does pity reset when the banner changes?
No, not between banners of the same type: pity and the guarantee carry over. Different banner types, such as character and weapon, keep separate counters.
