How it works

Servings = container ÷ grams per scoop · Days = servings ÷ scoops per day · Cost/day = price ÷ days

Greens powders are priced per tub but used per scoop, so the real cost depends on scoop size and how many you take daily. Dividing the container weight by the grams in one scoop gives the number of servings, and dividing that by your daily scoops gives how many days a tub lasts. From there the per-day and per-serving cost let you compare products fairly, since a cheaper tub with a bigger scoop can work out more expensive.

Worked example

A 300 g tub with a 10 g scoop holds 30 servings. Taking one scoop a day, it lasts 30 days. If it cost $45, that is 45 ÷ 30 = $1.50 per day and per serving — the number to compare against a rival tub rather than the sticker price.

Frequently asked questions

How many servings are in a tub?

Divide the total grams by the grams in one scoop. A 300 g tub with a 10 g scoop is 30 servings, regardless of what the front label rounds to.

Why compare cost per serving?

Tubs differ in size and scoop weight, so the shelf price is misleading. Cost per serving (or per day) is the like-for-like comparison between brands.

Do greens powders replace vegetables?

No. They can add micronutrients and phytonutrients, but they lack the fiber and volume of whole vegetables and are best treated as a supplement, not a substitute.
