Amazon KDP Royalty Calculator
Kindle ebook royalty at 35% or 70% (price bands, delivery cost per MB and VAT by marketplace), paperback and hardcover royalty at 60%, 50% or 40% after KDP’s current printing costs by ink, paper and trim size, minimum list price, Kindle Unlimited page reads and monthly income — for 15 Amazon marketplaces.
How it works
Ebook 70%: (list price − VAT − file size × delivery rate) × 70% · Ebook 35%: (list price − VAT) × 35% · Print: royalty rate × list price − printing cost, where the rate is 60% at or above the store’s threshold ($9.99 on Amazon.com), 50% below it and 40% for Expanded Distribution · Printing cost = fixed cost (+ pages × per-page cost above the fixed-only page range) · Minimum print price = printing cost ÷ royalty rate · Kindle Unlimited = KENP pages read × the month’s per-page rate
Kindle ebooks earn either 35% or 70% of the list price. The 70% plan only applies when the price sits inside the store’s band — on Amazon.com that band widened from $2.99–$9.99 to $2.99–$12.99 on 7 July 2026, with matching changes elsewhere — and KDP deducts a delivery charge for every megabyte of the file ($0.15 per MB on Amazon.com, £0.10 in the UK, €0.12 in the euro stores). In stores where list prices include VAT or GST (the EU, UK, Australia, Japan and India) the tax comes off before the percentage is applied, so a €4.99 book in Germany earns on about €4.66. Japan, India, Brazil and Mexico pay 70% only to KDP Select books. Paperbacks and hardcovers earn 60% of the list price at or above a threshold ($9.99, £7.99, €9.99, C$13.99, A$13.99, ¥1,000) and 50% below it, minus the printing cost. Printing is a flat fee for short books and a fixed fee plus a per-page charge for longer ones, higher for colour and for large trims. Expanded Distribution pays 40%. The calculator also shows the minimum list price KDP will accept, the price where the 60% rate starts, the file size at which the 35% plan beats 70%, Kindle Unlimited page-read income and a price ladder. Every rate here was checked against KDP’s help pages on 18 October 2026; use the override fields if KDP changes them.
Worked example
Ebook: a $4.99, 2.5 MB book on Amazon.com at 70% pays delivery of 2.5 × $0.15 = $0.38, so the royalty is 70% × ($4.99 − $0.38) = $3.23 — about $968 a month at 300 copies. At 35% it would be $1.75. Paperback: a 300-page black-and-white regular-trim book costs $1.00 + 300 × $0.012 = $4.60 to print; at $14.99 it earns 60% × $14.99 − $4.60 = $4.39, and the lowest price KDP accepts is $9.20 (at the 50% rate). A 300-page black-ink hardcover costs $5.65 + 300 × $0.012 = $9.25 to print.

Frequently asked questions
What changed in 2026?
From 7 July 2026 the 70% ebook band on Amazon.com runs from $2.99 to $12.99 instead of $9.99, with equivalent increases in other stores (for example £12.99, €12.99, A$15.99 and ¥1,650). Delivery costs and the 35% plan did not change.
Why does my paperback earn 50%?
Since mid-2025 KDP pays 60% only when the list price is at or above the store’s threshold — $9.99 on Amazon.com, £7.99 on Amazon.co.uk, €9.99 in the euro stores. Below that it pays 50% minus printing. The calculator shows what you would earn at the threshold price.
When does the 35% plan pay more than 70%?
When the delivery fee is large. With a price P (after VAT) and a per-MB rate r, 35% wins once the file is larger than P ÷ (2r) — about 16.6 MB for a $4.99 book on Amazon.com. Image-heavy books and comics often hit this.
How much does Kindle Unlimited pay?
Books in KDP Select earn a share of a monthly fund for each Kindle Edition Normalized Page (KENP) read. The rate has been around $0.004–$0.005 per page on Amazon.com; enter your pages read and the latest rate to add it to your monthly income.
Does trim size change the printing cost?
Only by category. Regular trims up to 6.12 × 9 inches cost less per page than large trims such as 7 × 10 or 8.5 × 11. Bleed and glossy or matte covers do not change the cost.
