How it works

Total = rental + add-ons · Per person = total ÷ people · Per hour = total ÷ hours · Per guest = total ÷ guests

A photo booth is a classic shared expense — friends or family often chip in to gift it to the couple, or a group splits it for a party. The fair share is the all-in cost (base rental plus props, extra prints, backdrops and travel) divided evenly by the number of contributors. Framing the same total per hour and per guest helps you judge whether a longer rental or a cheaper package is the better value.

Worked example

A $600 rental with $150 of add-ons is $750 total. Split 4 ways that is $750 ÷ 4 = $187.50 each. Over a 4-hour rental it works out to $187.50 per hour, and across 120 guests about $6.25 per guest.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a photo booth cost to rent?

Typical rentals run $400–$900 for 3–4 hours, with open-air and 360 booths at the higher end. Props, unlimited prints, a custom backdrop, a scrapbook and travel are common add-ons that raise the all-in price.

How do we split the cost fairly?

Add the base rental to every add-on for the true total, then divide by the number of people chipping in. This tool does that and also shows the cost per hour and per guest so you can compare packages.

Is a photo booth worth it?

At a few dollars per guest it is one of the cheaper forms of entertainment and doubles as a favor when guests keep the prints. Compare the per-guest figure here against other entertainment such as a DJ or band.
