How it works

Estimated rating = average opponent rating + (win rate − 0.5) × 2.0, clamped to 2.0–8.0

Ratings systems like DUPR place recreational and pro pickleball players on a single 2.0–8.0 scale updated from match results. A true DUPR uses point-margin and a reliability weighting from many games, but the core idea is simple: if you consistently beat players at a given level you belong above them, and if you lose you belong below. This estimator captures that intuition — an even record rates you at your opponents’ level, and a lopsided record shifts you up or down by up to a full point.

Worked example

Winning 6 of 10 games (60%) against opponents averaging 3.5 gives 3.5 + (0.60 − 0.5) × 2.0 = 3.5 + 0.20 = about 3.70.

Frequently asked questions

Is this my official DUPR?

No. Official DUPR uses your actual scores, point margins and a confidence weighting built from many logged matches. This is a quick estimate to see roughly where a recent run of results places you.

What do the numbers mean?

On the 2.0–8.0 scale, 2.0–3.0 is a beginner, 3.5–4.0 a solid intermediate, 4.5–5.0 an advanced/tournament player, and 6.0+ is professional level.

Why does win rate matter more than who I beat?

Both matter: the estimate starts from your opponents’ average rating and then adjusts by your win rate, so beating stronger fields lands you higher than the same record against weaker ones.
