Protein Shake Scoop Calculator
Work out how many scoops of protein powder fill the gap between your daily goal and the protein from food.
How it works
Gap = goal − protein from food · Scoops = gap ÷ protein per scoop (rounded up)
Powder is meant to top up a diet, not replace it, so the useful number is the shortfall left after food. Subtracting food protein from your goal gives that gap, and dividing by the protein in one scoop gives the scoops to drink. Rounding up guarantees you reach the target; the exact figure tells you whether a partial scoop or an extra bite of food would be closer.
Worked example
With a 150 g goal and 90 g from food, the gap is 60 g. At 24 g per scoop that is 60 ÷ 24 = 2.5 scoops, rounded up to 3 to fully meet the goal.
Frequently asked questions
Why round up instead of down?
Rounding up ensures you actually hit the protein target rather than falling just short. The exact figure is shown too, so if 2.5 scoops is close enough you can pour a half scoop instead.
Can too much powder in one shake be wasted?
Your body absorbs the amino acids regardless, but very large single doses are simply used less efficiently for muscle building. Spreading protein across meals is better than dumping four scoops into one shake.
What counts as protein from food?
Add up the protein grams from everything you eat that day — meat, dairy, eggs, legumes, grains. Enter that total here and the calculator tells you how much powder, if any, is left to add.
