Punch Bowl Recipe Calculator
Scale a party punch to your guest count — total volume, bowl size, and how much juice, ginger ale and sherbet to buy.
How it works
total oz = guests × cups each × cup size · juice 50% · ginger ale 37.5% · sherbet/ice 12.5% · 128 oz = 1 gallon
Punch runs out because people take small refills all night — plan for at least two cups per guest, more for a long or hot event. The classic ratio is half fruit juice, three-eighths bubbly for lift, and an eighth sherbet or a frozen ice ring that chills without watering the punch down. Always buy a bowl bigger than the volume so it doesn’t slosh, and add the ginger ale last to keep the fizz.
Worked example
25 guests at 2 cups each in 4-oz punch cups is 200 oz, about 1.6 gallons and 50 pours. Split that into roughly 100 oz of juice, 75 oz of ginger ale and 25 oz of sherbet, served from at least a 2-gallon bowl.
Frequently asked questions
How many cups of punch per person?
Two is a safe minimum for a couple of hours; bump it to three or four for a long reception or a warm day. People sip and refill more from a punch bowl than they do from a poured drink.
Should I add the ginger ale ahead of time?
No — mix the juice base and chill it, then pour in the ginger ale or soda just before serving so the punch stays fizzy. Flat punch is the classic mistake.
How do I keep punch cold without diluting it?
Use a sherbet scoop or a frozen ice ring made from the punch base or juice, not plain ice cubes. It chills the bowl and melts into more of the same flavor instead of watering it down.
