Quarter of the Year Calculator
Find which calendar or fiscal quarter a date is in, the quarter’s start and end dates, how far through it you are, the working days left, and a table of all four quarters of the year.
How it works
calendar quarter = ⌊(month − 1) ÷ 3⌋ + 1 · Q1 Jan–Mar, Q2 Apr–Jun, Q3 Jul–Sep, Q4 Oct–Dec · fiscal quarter = ⌊fiscal month ÷ 3⌋ + 1, where fiscal month = (month − start month + 12) mod 12 · progress = day into the quarter ÷ days in the quarter
A calendar quarter is a three-month block: Q1 is January to March, Q2 April to June, Q3 July to September and Q4 October to December. The quarter number comes from dividing the month index by three, and the calculator also gives the exact first and last dates of that quarter, how many days into it your date sits, the percentage completed, and the working days (Monday to Friday, optionally minus public holidays) left before it ends. If your organization’s year does not start in January, pick its first month: the calculator then counts fiscal quarters from that month (for example, the US federal fiscal year starts on October 1, so October to December is Q1) and lets you choose whether the fiscal year is named after the year it ends, the year it starts, or both. A table lists all four quarters of the year with their dates, lengths and working days.
Worked example
10 Aug 2026 is in month 8, so ⌊7 ÷ 3⌋ + 1 = Q3. Q3 2026 runs 1 Jul to 30 Sep — 92 days — and 10 August is day 41 (44.6% through), leaving 51 days and 37 working days (Monday to Friday) in the quarter. With a fiscal year that starts in October and is named after the year it ends, the same date is in Q4 FY2026 (July–September); with an April start it is in Q2 FY2027 (July–September).

Frequently asked questions
When do the calendar quarters start and end?
Q1 is 1 Jan–31 Mar, Q2 1 Apr–30 Jun, Q3 1 Jul–30 Sep, and Q4 1 Oct–31 Dec. Each is three whole calendar months long.
How do fiscal quarters work?
A fiscal year can start in any month, and its quarters are counted from there. With an October start (the US federal government), Q1 is October to December, Q2 January to March, Q3 April to June and Q4 July to September. Choose the start month above to see the fiscal quarter for any date.
Is FY2027 the year that starts or ends in 2027?
It depends on the organization. The US federal government and many companies name the fiscal year after the year in which it ends, so FY2027 runs from October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027. Others name it after the starting year or write both years, such as FY2026–27; the calculator supports all three.
How long is each quarter?
Calendar Q1 is 90 days (91 in a leap year), Q2 is 91 days, and Q3 and Q4 are 92 days each. The lengths differ because the underlying months do.
How are working days counted?
Working days are Monday to Friday. Choose US, Mexican, Colombian or Spanish national holidays under More options to leave those out too. “Working days left” counts from the day after your date through the last day of the quarter.
