RAM Latency Calculator
Convert RAM CAS latency and speed into true access latency in nanoseconds.
CAS latency (CL)
Memory speed

How it works
Latency (ns) = CL × 2000 ÷ speed (MT/s)
DDR memory transfers data twice per clock cycle, so the real clock is half the MT/s rating. True latency converts the CAS latency (in clock cycles) into nanoseconds, letting you compare kits with different speeds and timings fairly.
Worked example
DDR4-3200 CL16 = 16 × 2000 ÷ 3200 = 10 ns.
Frequently asked questions
Is lower CL always better?
Not alone — a higher-speed kit with a higher CL can still have lower true latency. Compare the nanoseconds, not just CL.
What is MT/s vs MHz?
MT/s is mega-transfers per second; DDR does two per clock, so MHz is half the MT/s number.
