How it works

Two years share a calendar when January 1 falls on the same weekday and both are leap years or both are common years · weekday shifts by 1 after a common year and by 2 after a leap year

There are only 14 possible yearly calendars: seven starting weekdays, each in a common and a leap version. A common year’s calendar usually repeats after 6 or 11 years and a leap year’s after 28 years, but century years that are not leap years (1900, 2100) break the pattern, so the calculator checks each year of the Gregorian calendar directly. The whole Gregorian cycle repeats exactly every 400 years.

Worked example

January 1, 2026 is a Thursday and 2026 is not a leap year. The next year starting on a Thursday that is also a common year is 2037, so a 2026 calendar can be reused in 2037; the previous match was 2015.

Frequently asked questions

Which year has the same calendar as 2026?

2037 is the next and 2015 the previous; 2043 and 2054 also match. All start on a Thursday and are not leap years.

How often do calendars repeat?

Common years repeat after 6, 11 or sometimes 12 years; leap years repeat after 28 years (within the same century rules). The full Gregorian calendar repeats every 400 years.

Can I reuse a calendar from 28 years ago?

Usually yes: between 1901 and 2099 every calendar repeats after 28 years. Across 1900 or 2100 the cycle breaks because those years are not leap years.

Do holidays fall on the same days too?

Fixed-date holidays like Christmas fall on the same weekday, but movable ones such as Easter, Carnival and Holy Week usually do not, because they follow the moon.
