Year Progress Calculator
How much of the year has gone? See the percentage complete for today or any date and time, the days, weekdays, weekends and hours left, the day and week number, and progress through the day, week, month, quarter, decade and century, for the calendar year, a fiscal year or any period you choose, with milestone dates.
How it works
progress = time elapsed since the period began ÷ length of the period × 100 (365 or 366 days for a calendar year) · days left = length − elapsed · the same ratio for the day, week, month, quarter, decade and century · milestone date = start + length × p%
A progress bar for the calendar. The days that have passed since January 1, divided by 365 (or 366 in a leap year), give the share of the year that is gone; the week, month, quarter, decade and century use the same idea. By default the chosen date counts as just starting, so only the full days before it are counted. Switch to End of day to count the date as done, which is how many “year progress” sites show it, or pick a time to get the figure to the minute. Choose Fiscal year to measure a year that ends in another month, such as September 30 for the US federal government, or My own dates for any stretch of time: a semester, a project, a contract or a training plan. The results also show the days, weekdays, weekends and hours left, the day and ISO week number, and what 1% of the period is worth. The milestones table gives the date and time each of 10%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 90% is reached, and the month-by-month table shows how far through each month you are.
Worked example
At the start of October 18, 2026 (day 291 of 365), 290 full days have passed: 290 ÷ 365 = 79.5% of the year, leaving 75 days or 10.7 weeks, with 10 weekends and 54 weekdays. At the end of that day it is 291 ÷ 365 = 79.7%. October is 55% done, Q4 is 18% done, the 2020s are 67.9% through and the 21st century 25.79%. The year hit 50% at noon on Thursday, July 2. For a school year from September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027 (303 days), October 18 is 47 ÷ 303 = 15.5% of the way through.
Frequently asked questions
Is today counted as gone?
Not by default: at the start of a day only the full days before it count, so January 1 is 0%. Choose End of day to count the date itself, which gives the figure most year-progress counters show, or A time to see the progress to the minute.
Do leap years change it?
Slightly. 2028 has 366 days, so each day is 0.273% of the year instead of 0.274%, and 1% of the year is 3.66 days instead of 3.65.
When is the year half over?
In a common year the midpoint is 182.5 days in, which is noon on July 2. In a leap year it is 183 of 366 days, at midnight between July 1 and July 2. The milestones table gives the moment for any year or period.
Can I track a school year, project or fiscal year?
Yes. Choose Fiscal year and its last month, or My own dates and enter the first and last day. The progress, days left, weekends and milestones then use that period.
How many weekends are left?
The calculator counts the Saturdays from the first day that is not over yet to the end of the period. Weekdays left are the Mondays to Fridays in the same span, without removing public holidays.
